    Post Well......ME troubles....

    OK
installed me on some system for the past few weeks, and here are important results :
some isa card just WONT WORK on ME, even if it worked before on 98se (Modem,Sound)
some win 9X drivers, works for some time (usually few hours, days) and then start making troubles (even on pci devices)
It is recommended by me to install ME only on NEW basic systems, and that drivers are specially designed for ME.
    youve been bewared !
    good lock !!! (well, luck....)

I was getting all sorts of errors after installing ME on my system, then found that once I removed my old ess1868 el cheapo sound card and put in an old SB16 I had laying around, everything worked fine.

You got an old SB 16 to work, must have been newer than my friends, he also had an old ess card that refused to work

    Angry

Had 98 installed on my pc. No probs with it. ever. Then installed ME as a second OS, but it overwrote Win98. So I tried me, but it wouldn't find half the stuff I had running ok in 98. So I thought, I'll reformat and reinstall 98. Will the blessed thing go back on? NO. It appears that WinME has really botched things up, forever getting VMM.VXD errors, and blue screens, unable to write to device etc etc. I've tried reinstalling nearly 10 times! To no avail!. Can't even install 2000 cos 98 won't always boot!. So I'm gonna try low-level formatting the HD tonight...Advice- Don't touch ME.....
Request- Any other ideas out there..... anyone????

you didn't just post that you tried to install 98 OVER Me? did you? well, duh!!! no wonder you are getting vxd errors. and um....low level formatting is not what you are planning on doing. just boot up a bootdisk and format c: a low level format is a little (a LOT) different from the format that you will likely be doing.

    Cool

well i've been using ME quite sometime now.. and it's problem free, i would say that clean install is the best thing to do... updrading over 98se is not too good...
and put in a card one at a time so we know which card is f***ing up..

I have three main gripes with ME.

    1. That bloody ridiculous restore system that eats your hard drive. Thank god you can it off.

    2. What the hell gives with the processor usage ? 80 - 90% with no apps running !

    3. After about 1 month it slows to a crawl.

    4. It's making Mico$oft more $$

    Whoops, sorry thats four.

I've binned it and stuck 98 back on.

    Thumbs down

For what it's worth Dept.. Win Me has removed support for a ton of hardware. Don't take my word for it. Check the hcl on the Microsoft web site. Most of the Creative sound cards, a lot of modems, video cards, etc. I did an upgrade over 98 SP-1 and it would not find my AWE 32 or USR 56k V-90 int modem. Ran install new hardware, it found and installed both items. Everything worked fine until shutdown and restart. after OS loaded, no more sound card, no more modem. Go figure. Binned ME for good..

    Dear shanff,

Of course I havn't reinstalled 98 over me. I've formatted the drive enough times that nout will ever get me back. I've now managed to get 98se working ok.... but I'm thinking of dualbooting with W2k (the vxd errors were caused by a scsi card in a PCI slot.....that PCI slot is now totally dead!

    I HATE ME!

80 - 90 % processor usage with no apps running what the heck you been smoking , ive had ME for about 2 months now and no problems whatsoever, other then one driver for a web cam that wasnt out for ME and even then I got the win2000 drivers and they worked fine, anyway ive got 20 percent processor usage and norton antivirus, zonealarm, some other small things running. sorry to hear about your processor, oh yeah 733 mhz pIII, 128mb ram.
