win95 to win98
I have windows 95 on my computer and have been given a full windows 98 cd. I cannot upgrade while I have windows 95 still on my computer. Is there anyway to do it without reformating my c drive

you can upgrade win95 to Win 98 but I'd advise against it..
you can install Win98 in C:\Win98 ... without any formatting..
but the BEST idea is backing up, removing all the partitions, and reforamtting..

Or, if at a bare minimum, rename the windows and program files directories before installing 98, and make sure that you install to a new directory, as setup will detect the old windows directory, even if you rename it!

First, uninstall any Anti-Virus and utility software.
Uninstall any updates you've made to Internet Explorer.
Create a Folder c:\Win98\
Copy contents of (Win98 CD):\Win98\ folder to c:\Win98\
Boot to Dos prompt (hit F8 when you see "Starting Windows...")
type:
cd\Windows
ren desktop desk95
ren win.com win95.com
cd\win98
setup
(the reason to rename the desktop is in case you have any folders on the desktop)
once windows is setup, you'll want to check that all your devices are installed correctly. Go to "My Computer" and right click. Select properties and look in device manager to make sure you have the proper drivers.
Don't forget to copy the contents of desk95 back to the desktop.
Sometimes the most difficult problems have the most obvious solutions - they just get overlooked.
