Yet another windows protection error
Ok we've been struggling with this for a couple days now.
I'm using a Via chipset motherboard (vt82c694x)
pentium III 1 gigahertz chip
ati rage pro 128 AGP video card
512megs sdram
40 gig seagate hard drive
everything else has been eliminated from the machine, and even the the video card has been changed 3 times to another agp card, and a PCI card.
we have been getting windows protection errors constinatly when ever we are in normal mode. Safe mode is ok. We have tried win98 and win98se, same thing happens in both.
it occasionally says that there has been a stacks overflow and that I should modify the stacks in the config.sys. I haven't found this to help

Hopefully this won't have anything to do with your problem. http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin...&f=21&t=000434

Instead of making any modifications to config.sys, try clean-booting the machine (this is the first thing you should always try) and add the following lines to the [386 Enh] section of your system.ini
[386 Enh]
MinSPs=8
VirtualHDIRQ=FALSE
After making the changes, reboot the box & see if you still get the error(s)

If you have more than one memory stick, take one out and try again ... if same problem, try swapping ... if the problem goes away with either memory stick out, then you have bad memory.

Thanks all, but we've tried all the switch and bait tactics (changing hardware over and over). We're just going to send the board and processor back.
