*help!* 16 bit Windows Subsystem Error

I just have this error when I’m trying to install ATI and Nendo Demo that I just download:

"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

Is this the problem that I can't install any programs in CD or DVD?
And another thing, do I need to install XP SP2 because when I install it my computer is slowing down and I can't open any of this website anymore. Is there any way to solve this problem?

are you using win 98 or xp?

the program you are installing is for a 98 type machine

You can see if XP will let you run it in compatability mode.

How old of a demo might Ati and nendo Demo be, are they win32 bit apps where.

Would Nortons Utilites Be installed?
Have you ran a legit Spyware Checker, Like Spybot S&D or Adware Se?
You may want to Check your msconfig and see if the startup isn't 8 pages long. there could be numours reasons why this happens any other things?

Ill try some more if none of these work.

I just solve the autoexec.nt problem that you have to copy autoexec.nt from windows/repair and paste it into windows/system32 but when I reboot my computer the autoexec.nt is gone from windows/system32 why?

a: go here ,, read and follow the words it preaches do exactly as it says remembering to turn off system restore , and use safe mode (f8) when told to

c: check that the cd,s you are installing are compatable for XP
(obviously the one above was,nt)

d: you did not solve the autoexec/nt problem , you just found an incorrect workaround for it. continuation to "mess around" will render your OS damaged to a point of not rebooting.

just do the a/v and spyware and see if that sorts your bad connection out

note the first game you mentioned was NOT a xp programme , hence the reason for not loading

There are two reasons for the autoexec.nt file not being present in your system

first, sp2 for xp is deleting this file in SOME instances..
second, there are a few malware programs that are deleting this file in order to prevent antispyware programs from being used to uninstall the malware..directions for replacing the file are here:

after you replace the file, try rebooting a couple of times and make sure it is not deleted again..if it is, with your slow down problem with sp2 installed, I would suggest uninstalling sp2, doing a complete spyware/malware/virus cleanup, and trying the install again after perhaps a repair install of XP
