Interesting..I just downloaded that same driver, uninstalled the previous nvidia drivers, rebooted the computer, and then clicked on the new driver .exe, it unpacked to the same folder you listed, and then started the install routine automatically. There should be a setup.exe file in that folder you listed..but be sure to uninstall the current drivers from add/remove programs and reboot before trying the new install

REALLY. Wow. I will try again but I am SURE nothing started after unpacking.
It MAY have though the 1st time and then I tried again via "Update driver"
I also made sure (And I am) in as Admin. while doing any of that.
I will try again.

Ok, I tried again. Removed anything that had to do with Nvidia.
It DID start after unpacking. Went though and rebooted and it just kept rebooting till it got to a screen to choose last known good config.
And I chose that.
Errrrrrrrr
Any ideas?
Also. I dont know if I said the the Nvida Geforce2 MxMx/400 IS a AGP.

Is it in a brown slot? if so, it is agp. Some card/computer combinations don't like the newest reference drivers. Try some of the older ones on the Nvidia XP/2000 archive page located here I have had good luck with the 56-61 series when the newest dont work. Just make sure to uninstall the drivers from add/remove and reboot before trying new ones.

I will do that Geo thanks.
I didnt know where the achived ones were. The main thing is I have to have something that supports the newest directX 9c I think it was.
But I will try some of those and let you know.
And as always I am VERY grateful for your reply.
Oh yes. As stated above it IS an AGP

Well, I'm not having any luck with that either. The achived one before the newest would shut down during the install. The one before that installed but the same thing at reboot. Time for another card I guess.
Gona try the ATI again. Will post back and thanks for the replies geo.

A possible solution
Maybe you've already resolved this issue, but I have a similar setup with the same problem -- Recently installed Win XP Home on a Gateway Performance 1800 CX with a NVidia GeForce MX/MX 440 video card. The video driver (which was originally an NVidia driver in Win ME) was replaced by a Microsoft driver, dated 2001. Graphics were slow with certain games & programs. But if I tried to upgrade, I'd get a blank screen on reboot, after Windows Starting Up screen.
After numerous upgrade tests, solution was to go to the http://support.gateway.com, type in the machine's s/n, & upgrade the BIOS & NVIDIA driver given there. Actually, note sure if the BIOS update was needed, but the NVIDIA driver that worked was version 15.20 (I know, old but it works) -- file 7511130.exe.
