Faulty card ???
hey all...
i usually don't play 3d games...only noe and than..
last week i wanted to play nba 2003 but as soon as the players show when starting a game...the game stucks.
same thing with nba 2005.
i suspected a d3d problem so i installed the old voodoo lights screen saver becasue i could change setting quickly (direct 3d using rgb/hal/T&L).
all modes exept rgb work for 5 seconds and get stuck..
i did more tests with with disabling acceleration but to make a long story short:
i installed xp sp2 on a different harddrive and using the xp driver or the card's driver i got the same result.
motherboard intel dm850mv
pentium 4 1.6
512MB RDRAM
geforce 4 mx 64mb
that's it for the card ??

Is this related to your upgrade question? If so, tell us more. Do you have any problems besides those two games?

it is related..because if the card is bad...i wanna replace.
the problem is with these 2 game (i don't play much) and with the d3d screen saver i mentioned - blue screen of death with the nv4 involved.
i tried another game "the punisher"...this one played well..very strange (is it ded or opengl??)..

Well, the first thing I would try as a tech would be to see if the two games you're having issues with have any updates or issues. IF it is only those two games.
The second think I'd do is try a different card, but I keep them in stock, so you may not have access to one. Do you have a friend you could borrow a card from? A newer card?

is the guy at the computer store considered a friend ??..
well...i've been playing nba2003 for a long time with no updates or nothing..
the reason i suspect the card is that on a fresh install it still didn't work..

UPDATE:
i isntalled PowerStrip and decreased the Engine Clock from 270MHz (Default) to 225MHz.
well...NBA 2003/2005 works and my d3d screen saver workes without getting stuck or blue screen of death..
what does it mean ?...the card get to hot and freezes ??...
