USB on a Dell Server
I have two 160 GB CrossFire External hard drives I want to connect to a Dell server.
The CrossFire is USB and FireWire compatible.
The Dell Server is a PowerEdge 2650 that was purchased last February (2004).
It has one usb port in the front and two in the back.
I am not sure they are 2.0
Is there a way to tell if the USB port is 2.0 or 1.1 on the 2650?
Thanks

It is USB 1.1 although none of the documentation i have mention this. They only mention usb ports. Obviously not an important selling point.
If you have a spare pci slot, consider a usb2 card.

Pe2650 is a 2U chassis with space for up to 5 scsi drive through th front. Internally it's stuffed with fans, cabling etc and no extra space for disks.
another option is: http://www.linksys.com/products/prod...id=43&prid=640

The Linksys drive looks pretty cool.
Indeed, the 2650's are packed as are the 2850's and 650's
The 650 is a 1U, even worse for space.
The 2850's are new enough that they have 2.0 USB.
However, I am using the 2850's as Database Servers and can't hang the spare drives off of them.
I will see if te 2650 has a spare slot for the usb2 card.
thanks

Yeah, the 8th gen range are nice machines. I've played with the pre prod versions of the 6800 and 6850 4 way servers. Very cool. Mirrored redundant and hotswap memory. Xeon MP cpu's, EM64T and when available will support duall core cpu's. Plus the normal bits, pci-x and pci express.
