Connecting a IBM T41 to Cable Modem

I have a IBM T41, which is running WinXP. It is a work machine that connects to the company network via Novell Login. Works in the office. I bring it home and try to connect it to my cable modem and can not connect. The LAN Connection shows enabled and when I pull the network cable it shows disconnected. I can not wee a IP address and can not open a browser session. I tried releaseing and repairing and it would not work, it will not let me repair.

I need to get this thing talking to the cable modem and connect to the internet.

Any suggestions on what I should look at?

Shut down the laptop and turn off the cable modem (unplug power). Wait 1 minute. Plug back in. Wait to see the link light on... turn on your computer.
I assume you have another computer in the house. To make the other computer work you will have to repeat the procedure...
This is due to the fact that the cable modem will only talk to the network adapter it was first connected to after power-on.

    Ibm t41 to cable Modem

This Maybe a redundant question But here it goes What version of Netware ?
Typically earlier versions ran primarily on ipx/spx is your novell login script possibly not allowing dhcp ie:static Ip assigned by network admin?

A router at Home could resolve some issues if your ip is static you could setup a router using same subnet settings as work.

The Network adapter may have static DNS and Gateway Info bound to it from your works network.

Can you add another Network adapter this would allow you to set your own
TCP/IP settings for home leave the original alone.

    Hope this Helps
