Exclamation I think it might be a driver no sound...help!

I've been having some trouble lately with the sound on my computer. Basically I have NONE! My computer does not recognize any of my music files, nor does it let me adjust the volume, norrer do I have any sound when playing games.
When I go to the control panel and click on sound and audio devices it does not recognize an audio device. My sound card is connected to my mother board so I know it's there, but the computer isn't recognizing it.
I took some advice and downloaded everest, If i am looking at the right thing my sound device is an Intel 82801DB(M) ICH4(-M) - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-1]
    Does that sound right?

    Any ideas?

    Welcome to Windrivers kruggie2000.

You don't mention what machine you have, but this driver should work fine:

    Still trouble

    Hi Shamus,
Thanks for responding. I'm still having some trouble. I went to the website you recomended and downloaded that driver. I went to the setup.exe file and opened that. Now I have a 'Sound max' display on my screen along with a warning that says "Driver not found! Reboot your system and try again."
I have an HP Pavilion 743 running windows XP.

    Any more tips,
    Thanks again,
    kruggie2000

    confused!

Thanks again Shamus for your help, but I'm wondering if I'm barking up the wrong tree. I try to open my music files and none of them are recognized. Also, when I go to my control panel and sound device it says there are no playback devices. And under the volume tab it says there is no audio device. Sort of confusing. I guess it's safe to say I'm at a loss.

    Any clues?

    Thanks again,

    kruggie 2000
