[RESOLVED] WIindows 8 SE clean install for upgrade
Is there any way to do a clean install with win98 SE upgrade? I recall a previous ver. of 95 osr2 that if you removed the win.com file it would ugrade the os. I am woundering if anyone knows what file it is looking for.

You can try renaming the Win.ini also, but I think that Win98SE looks for the Windows directory. I will look into it more & see what I can do

I that the readme said the dos is diabled and you need to install from a running 98 enviroment. I was woundering if there was a way around having to load the OS twice. I was thinking that their may me be a specific setup file I could copy from my full ver.

You can do a complete clean install of 98 from the upgrade just by having an OEM version of 95 CD or all the windows 3.1 floppies. After you put in the product key, windows will come up with a compliance check. Just browse over to the cd or insert the floppies starting at disk 1 and 98 will install happily on a fresh drive.
You can also burn a cd with all the files from win31 and it will work just as well.
That is to do a clean install from an upgrade. If you are renaming win.com then you are trying to upgrade with an OEM version of 98.

No, Not the win98 upgrade. Windows 98 Second Edition upgrade. I have the full ver. of 98. The problem is you need to install win98 then win98 SE. The SE edition has all the files to do a full install but that feature is diabled.
