Exclamation Modem will not work in Win95B!!!!!!!

Hi, I am having a problem getting my modem to work in Win95B. I think that it has somthing to do with this device that windows has put under the category of"other devices" in device manager. The category "other devices" is questionmarked as well as the device. This device is the "PCI Communication device." I am not sure if this is the cause of the problem with my modem but need this problem fixed also. If anyone knows how to install this PCI Communications device in Windows95b please let me know.

Now back to my modem. It is a 56k V.90 Winmodem made my U.S. Robotics. If I go into control panel and click on modem and select the comm port the modem is on and click on "more info", it gos to the screen saying communicating with modem and then it says the following error.
    --------------------
The modem failed to respond. Make sure it is properly connected and turned on. If it is an internal modem, or is connected, verify that the interrupt for the port is properly set.
    --------------------
I know that my modem is connected right and that the interrupt is properly set. The only thing I can think of is that the modem is bad, but I do not have anyway of testing it. Please help me if you can, on both issues. I will really appreciate it!

    Thanx

What about drivers? Be sure that the correct drivers are installed for the modem.

Sorry to be so obvious if you've already covered this, but you didn't mention drivers in your post. Win95 B might not have the right drivers, see if you can get them from the manufacturer's site.

Most definately a driver problem. The modem should not be in other devices it should always appear under the device catergory modem, some PCI modem devices use enumerators to create a virtual comm port to transmit data, which needs setting up first, and this is why windows doesn't understand the device

If you have a driver disk use update driver for the device after of course putting the disk in!

If not you will need to trawl for a driver, re-post for advice if you can't identify it.

The modem you are installing is a PCI winmodem. You need to do a few things to get this going.
First, go into your BIOS, and disable COM 2 (serial port 2).
Next, after restart, go to device manager, and delete everything in "Other Devices".
Restart again. You should be able to install the modem. It may be a two step process, with a restart in between. The modem requires a PCI communication device installed for the computer to "talk" to the PCI bus correctly for a modem, the second part to actually install the modem drivers.
Good Luck, and let us know.
