    sound blaster live! 24-bit prob

    hey all,

i no this is like my 34234 thread on comp probs but our machines have old parts and new parts combined etc so we need all the help we can get.

well my bros just got a sound blaster live! 24-bit to pair up with his logitech Z-680. everything installeed correctly except the only prob is that it plays in 2.1 mode instead of 5.1 . the connections are correct (followed the manual) and on the sound audio devices in control panel it is selected for 5.1, but he is still only getting left/right close speakers on and the subwoofer, not the centre, nor the left/right far ones work with the music playing. wat do u thnk could be rong. thanks in advance!

thanks techz for reply, yeah it is win xp pro, and yeah i instaleld the drivers from cd. sound was only coming out of the 2 front speakers wen he has 5.1. it then turned out to be that, using creatives software (not sound devices in XP) CMSS 3d ( multichannel etc) wasnt enabled, but me and my bro were looking hardware - wise, not software - wise. so yeah it got fixed.

but, i could get help with a Vibra 128. its in an old comp (AMD) that my dad is going to use at work (as long as it rites word documents and plays cds/music in 2.1 itll be perfect for the office). the prob is wen i got this card about 2 yrs ago, it came with no cd, so i need to get drivers for it. it is Win xp pro also, amd athlon 1.2 GHz (mayb? :S). if u could help me get free drivers for just this it would b awesome. thanks

Can't link to Creative knowledge base, but Solution ID 2997 says (note bold):

How do I identify the correct driver update to download for my PCI 128/Vibra 128/PCI 64 card?
You must identify the model or chipset number on the card:

Most Creative cards have a CT number printed in white on the front of the card as shown below. In many cases, this number is actually the model number of the card. In other cases, the actual model number is made up of the first two digits of the white CT number on the front and the first two digits of the black revision number stamped on the back of the card e.g. the card below in images 1(front of card) and 2 (back of card) has the model number CT4811.

In certain cases, the card does not have a model number and can be identified by the number on the chipset of the card e.g. the card in image 3 below has the number 1371.

Once you have identified the model or chipset number, you can download drivers here. Following is a list of model numbers.

    Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI (CT4810, CT4811, CT4812, CT4815 and CT4816)
    Vibra 128 (CT4810, CT4811, CT4812, CT4815 & CT4816)
SB PCI 64 with the 1370 or 1371 chipset *
    SB PCI 128 (CT4700) with the 1370 or 1371 chipset *
    SB PCI 128 (CT4750/CT4751)
    * There are no driver updates for PCI 128 (CT4700) and PCI 64 cards based on the ES1370, ES1371 and ES1373 Chipsets for Windows Me/2000/XP - you must use the drivers built into these operating systems.

If you have a PCI 128/Vibra 128/PCI 64 soundcard that has either one of the following CT model numbers or chipset numbers, contact the PC manufacturer for drivers:

    CT2515
    CT2518
    CT58xx
    550x where x is a number between 0 and 9

Driver for CT4816, CT4751, CT5808, CT4740 and the CT4815 is here: http://us.creative.com/support/downl...ame=Windows+XP If you dont have one of those part numbers, you're probably out of luck.
Probability factor of one to one...we have normality, I repeat we have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem.

You can try it - may work, may not. Or you can try the drivers on the Creative site. CT4730 is probably OEM. Creative driver support for OEM products is the pits.
