    Question 2Gb filesize limit?

    Hi folks,

since a few weeks, i often record *.wav files from radio with my soundcard, but never above 2 Gb. Last time the wav-file has been the size of 2.2Gb and it wasn't accessible.
My HD is a 3.2Gb IBM-DAQA and i have a Soyo-Mobo, which is a little bit older (3 years), but with the latest BIOS-release.
    I use Win98-1st as OS.

Can someone give me a hint?

    Right.

Memory and hard drive space are the key to this problem. If you are loading a 2.2Gb file into memory then the memory will fill up quickly (I don't think you'll have 2Gb of memory ) after the physical memory is full the computer will look to the hard drive for space and seeing that your hard drive is only 3.2Gb then I wouldn't think that there be any space left.

    These may help:
    1. Use a program to compress it to MP3 (try http://www.miditrax.com/mp3/app2/MP3Comp.exe )
    2. Buy more memory and a bigger hard drive.

    Hope this helps.

Well PJK, i thought so before too... but when i tried the first time with a 1.6Gb-wav-file, loaded in WinOnCD 3.6 it worked! And it's just always working with file-size below 2Gb
BTW: I have only 64MB RAM but 3x3Gb HDs, so i use one HD only for the wav-file - nothing else!
Sure i want to MP3-compress this file... but how can i compress a non-accessible file?

No, i think that's not the answer, but thanks...

Do you have your page file on a drive that would allow it to grow to more than 2GB?

    Wink

Must I? I think, i have not... but when i think of it, my normal settings are to a fixed size of the pagefile (i can't look at it now at work) and this will be normally 3 times my RAM (RAM 64M, page 196M ). [Remember: 1.6GB is no Problem! Definitiv!]
