Hi, sorry about your Compaq, your in the same shoes as alot of people. The warranty has run out and now the pc is acting up! I would replace the cpu heatsink and fan with a higher end model. Also, add 2, 3, 4, more case fans and move the pc away from the wall or take it out of the pc shelf if it sits in an enclosed shelf. Get case fans that hook up to the power supply and not the mobo. I know its nice to have a couple hooked up to the mobo for temp and speed display, but, I try never to use those so the mobo doesnt have to transport the voltage to the case fans. Except the cpu should always be connected to the cpu fan riser (sometimes mobos won't post up when the cpu fan is not connected to the mobo cpu fan riser). Using extra case fans will help cool your HDD and power supply also. More considerations and factors are probably present but unmentioned above. Good luck and I really hope I helped some. Have fun.
