...No you didn't!..
Ok, so I'm spending the weekend building my new machine, get a call from a neighbor who knows I'm home doing all this stuff. His son was trying to upgrade a CPU in their home system, and was having problems...wanted to know if I could come over for a minute and help out. Needed a break, so I said "sure!"
Genius that I am, saw what the problem was right away...
Nice, even layer of thermal paste on the CPU/mobo pin connectors!!! *me* "Uhhhh, I think I know what the problem is...you're not going to like this..."
He'd done a nice job of it, though, each little tiny pin connector had a little white dot of paste in it, nicely and evenly spread!
Last bit of help I gave them...URL for Newegg to buy new mobo and CPU.

You would've thought that the neighbor kid was the only one in the world who would've done this?!
If nothing else, his paste job was much cleaner looking than the picture! [Probably due to attempting to wipe it down before I got there]
I have to admit, I was tempted to tell him to run it through the dishwasher and see what happens...

we have had resellers and government techs do the the exact same thing. it's funny when they try and argue for warranty.
