    USB probs

Dell Dimension 8250, WinXP. It has 2 usb ports on the front and 6 on the back none of which work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers but still nothing. I have a DiskOnKey drive that Windows detects (the usb icon appears on the taskbar) and in Device manager it will show up under the usb controller properties for the port I have it plugged into. Yet when I go to My Computer it's not there. ARRRRGGGHH!
Any ideas would be most welcome.

So the ports are working, its just not loading your drive properly, is that what you are saying?

Yes and no. The drive works in other machines so I know it's not the drive. Usb printers don't work either I've found..

I had this problem when I first got my laptop (unfortunately I'm cursed with rarely ever remembering my fixes for my problems, often causing me to have to rediscover the fixes when I experience the same problems again). Here's one possible solution if you fit this scenario: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;297694
I think that my solution was along those same lines. If I remember correctly, I unplugged the drive, cleared out all my temp files and powered down. I plugged the drive back in and the turned the computer back on. Then I went to Administrative Tools/Disk Management. The drive appeared in the right pane and I right-clicked on Disk Management in the left tree and assigned a drive letter to it. I'm not sure why I never had to go through that on other machines but it worked.
