win 98 reboot
operating win 98 w/amd k62 300 w/64 meg ram
system reboots about 90% of the time without warning while operating on the net, from desk
top or in idle, at times will get " Safe to turn computer off" other times will get " A
fatal exception QE has occurred at 0028: xxxx
xxxxxx the current application will be terminated press any key" a key is pressed and the desk top is displayed.
Sometimes there is a general failure and the computer scans the drive saying the computer was not shut down properly.
Where do I start?

Random reboots are usually a sign of excessive heat.
Random reboots while on the internet is usually a sign of a hardware conflict.
Check device manager for Com and IRQ assignments for things like your sound card, modem, any other COM device.
If possible, remove your modem in device manager, go into BIOS, disable com 2, restart, and reinstall your modem.
If that doesn't work, try moving your modem to a different slot on the mobo.
It's just possible the modem you have is designed for a faster system. Winmodems require a minimum 166MMX, but some will not run well even on 233 systems.

Geezer
what chipset is this? try the vxd fix in the tech tips section in may. If this is a via chipset it may be your DMA controller timings for your HD which are causing the problems, so as you are caching internet pages to disk things go amiss and you get BSOD. Do you get these symptoms any other time?
