    Post mem turbo cache tuning

    I have a toshiba satellite 330 laptop: P266, 64 Meg ram (kingston).

I installed Mem Turbo, and everything worked great. But then, I activated it's cache-tuning abilities, and for a while, my computer was running really nicely, and much faster (quite shocking actually). THEN, my computer started randomly freezing, and i had to reboot everytime. I lose complete response from my computer, I can't move my mouse, or ctrl-alt-del. ONCE, I got a blue screen fatal exception OE which read:
    0028:c004A07E in VXD VFat(01)+00008AB2 - called from 0028:c023A9c1 in vxd perf(05)+00000141

Does anyone know how to decipher this and maybe tell me whether this is or is not related to cache-tuning? It seems my computer hangs, mostly when I'm actively using ICQ (which makes it even more annoying). I would like to go back to my faster mode again.

I already defragged, and scandisked, but that didn;t help.

    other things i suspect:
    1. Norton Antivirus
    2. bad ram? (it is kingston though)
    3. system was built for win 95, although i did upgrade my BIOS, and installed updated drivers on a clean installation of win98 (formatted c

    Thanks.

Technet says the reference to VFat is something to do with Cyrix processors, but I don't think they make mobile chips, if I'm wrong the reference is PSS ID Number: Q134295
    .

Now for a more sensible answer,0E and the reference 0028 are usually to do with an IDE problem and in particular busmastering and DMA transfers, so I think mem turbo and your hard disk controller driver don't like each other, so either ditch mem turbo and or get an updated Hard disk controller driver, you could also try the famous Vxd fix which you can find by visiting the tech tips section on this site.

I have not used Mem Turbo so I cannot coment on the cache tuning side of it , but if this feature allows you to overclock the cache then this looks likely to be the problem. Try setting the features to a more conservative level, i.e. try altering one item at a time frim the default settings. This might then pin point the problem.
