ntoskrnl.exe
the above file is either missing/corrupt.the os is w2k with fat32.
tried to expand and says access denied.admin password on pc.
tried offline password but at step 2; point to registry path.....
it gives a default path of winnt/system32/config.
tried-- hitting enter---typing the default path given---
adding c:/ to it.tried typing c:/windows/system32/config also.used the recovery console but there is no option to type in admin password.would clearing cmos get around this?can someone
put me on the correct path

Hi,
This probably has nothing to do with CMOS. Take w2k CD and do the repair process. Hope you have a Backup. If you do not have backup and have "important" stuff on the computer -> use BARTPE in order to copy your data to another location
I will be lurking this thread frequently,
Gabriel

Sounds like you are following some instructions ?
How far can you get in booting ? be it safe mode or whatever, & can you get to to a prompt :- "C:\>" ? or can you only get recovery console going via your cd ?
CMOS sounds nothing to do with this, this is some file system error, caused either by a glitch, or perhaps a virus ? .. can you give us any clues about 'how we got here' ??
What were you doing just before etc?, any other 'recent strangeness' etc etc ..

thanks for the replies.the pc had three stop errors;not in a row but random.
1)stop error 0x00000076 process_has_locked_pages
2)stop error 0x0000007a kernel _data_inpage _error
3)stop error c000021A unknown hard error.
found some cures:for 1 --there is a hot fix
2 --couldn't find anything
3 --service pack 4
the pc is already at service pack 4.was in process of looking into the errors
when the pc crashed.it also wouldn't boot into safe mode, safe mode with
cmd prompt and last known good config. the steps that i'm following were from previous searches of past threads using "ntoskrnl.exe" as a search
parameter.i'm using recovery console presently;which gives me access denied
when i'm done typing the expand parameter.
