Win 98 Shut Down Prob
I recently built a new machine an installed Win 98SE on it and ran into a major annoyance. When I shut down my system it goes from the desktop, the shut down screen blink a litle bit ditorted, then it turns off. When I turn y PC back on, all my basic settings are gone. My icon config is set to default along with all my other personal setting. I tried installing the shut down patch, but it did nothing at all. I have an Abt BE6-2 motherboard and an oem celeron processor. Does anyone have any ideas because for now I have gone back to Win 95b?

Not sure but.... It sounds as though you were suffering from a dodgy display driver. If your system doesn't shut down sucessfully the icons and preferences would not have been saved.

My display driver should have no effect on my this problem, but I did try changing them to the newest and then to the latest reference driver.

MS has a fix for this at their web site. What is happening is the system is not shutting down corectly. MS knows about it and put a fix out for it. I have several machines that were upgraded from 98 to SE that have this problem as well. Until I figure out how to fix the bug without having each machine go to the update page on their website, I am holding off upgrading those ACERS, but the others are already done with no problem.
