ASUS A7V8X-LA ATX12V connector

Despite talking to compaq I have been unable to verify the power requirement for this connector on the subject motherboard. Can anyone tell me what it is or direct me to where I can get a manual with the pinouts?

Go to Asus website. Go to their downloads and down load the owners manual. It is an Adobe pdf file so be sure you have Acrobat reader.

Unfortunatly when I spoke with the ASUS personnel they said this is an oem board and they did not support it. They were as helpful as posssible but had neither tech data nor manuals. They refered me to Compaq who were unable to provide the information, Tried but apparently did not know or have the appropriate information to help. This surprised me greatly but apparently was true.

This motherboard comes in few different revisions - look at your BIOS sticker...

This MB still has pretty good support from Compaq/HP - you can find drivers or updates, if you know exact model number (to find it, I would recommend to use ASTRA sysinfo utility for DOS from http://www.sysinfolab.com ). Those guys from HP you're spoke to are most likely from "a new generation of techs" and probably had no idea what you were talking about... don't ask them questions regarding ampers or transistors...

As for 12V connector (by the way, what's the problem?) - it doesn't take a lot of power, few amps max... AFAIK, it primarily used as a signal buster for power MOSFETs , fans and some another on-board stuffs...
I didn't have 12V connector PSU for my QDI P4 motherboard, so I just used additional 12v cable taken from defective P4 PSU and soldered it to good 300Wt ATX PSU from an older system, and everything works fine so far... Compaq/HP uses just only 250Wt PSUs for systems using that board, by the way... But they are actually 250wt PSUs, not like fake "350-500Wt" noname PSUs.

Pinouts for that 12v connector you can find in any of ASUS manuals,as it was already suggested (as it is standard for any ATX P4/Athlons boards)... Just pick the manual for any of ASUS P4 motherboards (not OEM)...

Yes the tech was definitly a new generation. Could only refer to the computer for answer. Actually no help at all. The problem is that thsi is an oem board from ASUS to Compaq. My friends son uses it at school. Went back to school and it was dead. I verified the power sup[ply is dead and am trying to restore the machine. We have a replacement power supply but it does not have the connector for the 4 pin ATX12v connector. The documentation from Compaq:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...00069442&lc=en shown her shows the ATX12V connector the ASUS web site, when I can get in did not show it in the a7v8x documentation since then I have not been able to get in to see if the other models have it an try to download the manual.

I just need to verify the voltage on the ATX12V four pin connector. Once I do that I will do as you did and use the old connecter from the bad PS and splice it to the proper voltage from the new PS.

This MB uses standard +12V 4-pins square connector and pinouts are also standard... Yellow wires are connected to +12V output and blacks are "ground"... So, if you have that connector from P4 PSU, you don't need any manuals...

The only thing is missed on that MB is "minus 5v" channel (missed pin on power connector), but with standard P4 PSU it works fine...

Thanks Ruslan. Hooked it up last night and verified that the Motherboard is good. Will connect all peripherals today and should be good to go. Only concern I have, based on some input I got on another board, is that the original PS, a 250 watt Bestec, may have been underpowered for this application. I may wind up doing this again later with a 300 watt PS. But hopefull I will have a little more money by then.

Congratulations!

And don't worry about "underpowering" - that "250Wt Bestec PSU" is way more powerful than any of noname 420Wt ... Most of todays nonames are in fact nothing but re-marked 230wt models)... And they were also known as fakes some time ago... same schematics, same problems - nothing changed... except for sticker ouside the box... It is easy to "make PSU more powerful" by just replacing sticker...

Just compare weight of that 250Wt PSU and any new cheap PSU - which one is more powerful?

By the way, I have 235Wt Sparkle PSU in my Athlon XP2000 loaded system working already for almost 3 years without giving me any reasons why I should worry about "underpower"...

Hello friends. I´m from Spain (excuse me for my english).

I also have a PC (Compaq Presario SR1180ES) equiped with Asus A7V8X-LA (Kelut).

In the pass, I was looking for info about overclock in this motherboard. I think mod the AMD Barton microprocesor to AMD Mobile, to change de multiplier from 13 x 166 Mhz (2166 Mhz) to 11 x 200 Mhz (2200 Mhz), because I put 2 x DDR400 Geil 512 MB RAM. But I´m not sure that FSB for this motherboard can works at FSB 400 (I think only at 333). ¿What do you think?.

Also say that, like Ruslan said, power supply is good. But I Think don´t support 8 render pipelines graphics to well.

I have mounted a PowerColor ATI 9600 XT 256, but I tested to mount a GeCube 9800 XT 128, and the powersupply ever works at top, and the computer turns very noise. I think it crashed with this graphic card.
