Having to reboot after internet disconnect to reconnect
Help!
After I lose an internet connection I have to reboot my computor to (in some cases) get reconnect and (in other cases) to get a web page to come up in IE4. I am using Windows98 (original). I have exhausted myself with all the trouble shooters for modems, dial-up network, have re-installed my communications, unchecked all suggested boxes in dial-up and am now wondering if it might be an explorer bug or a windows problem? I have tried 3 different ISP's got rid of my USR winmodem and replaced it with a Motorola SM56pci, have gone through too many ISP tech's that I think I'd rather die than talk to another one (LOL) and I have no idea where else to turn. Any ideas?

Ditch the SM56 as they are the biggest pile of crap ever period !!!!!!!! Why do I say this?? Well I am forced to ' sell ' them by my bosses and as soon as one leaves the shop, we have a little wager on how long it takes on it to be returned ( normally within 90minutes !!!!!!! ) . If you want a good trouble free modem then buy a Diamond SupraExpress 56iPro . I have never had one of these come back and use them myself in my own systems. They are again PCI but they do not rely on using your CPU to run properly. I have used these modem son as low as P60's with no drop in connection or download speeds. Well Recommended

The answer is external modem. In addition to having the lights onth front so you can tell what the modem is doing an external modem. can be reset without resetting the machine.
