AOL error Message.

I keep getting the following error message on a client computer running AOL 9.0 SE.

A full connection to the AOL service cannot be established. Browsing and other features may not work correctly. Restarting your computer and, if a software firewall is installed, allowing all AOL software processes to run, may help resolve the problem. (40:29)

I couldn't find any info on AOL.com or through Google. I disabled all firewalls. Anyone have any ideas?

You are using the AOl Security Edition
You might try the following:
Open CONTROL PANEL
Click AOL CONNECTIVITY SERVICES item
Click CHANGE/REMOVE
Click REPAIR
Restart computer

This *might help. let us know how you make out.

Unfortunately the repair option didn't work and AOL's support is about a useless as a one legged cat trying to bury a turd on a frozen pond.

When connected can you use MSIE and view the web?
If so you could also try the "control+k" function on your keyboard and type in Browser fix. Other wise you have two more options. You could

a) Reinstall the software or

b) Copy the AOL folder from a network machine that has the same version and is working if possible,

Obviously you would have to back up the users data to perform either of these tasks. Don't you just love there software. I posted a slightly relevant news story today:

IE works fine. I figured I'd probably have to uninstall and re-install AOL, but I figured I'd give this a shot. Thanks anyway.

I had a problem like that once...had AOL on the phone like ten times, scoured the net...only recourse was to format and re-install. Even their high-level techs knew of it and couldn't get around it. Hopefully that ain't your problem, but if you un-install and then re-install and get the same error code I would seriously think about saving your time and just reloading the whole OS.

I had exactly the same problem (aol mostly worked, but no browsing from inside it, and no pops of news reports). I'd upgraded windows from Me to XPsp2, and also used WDC to copy my hard drive contents to a larger HD.

I resinstalled AOL, rebuilt the WAN Mini-port, etc, all to no avail.

Got on aol support phone with Joseph (in India), and he had me use control K, and type "browser fix" in the dialog. I got a message confirming I wanted to fix the "tunneling", executed, rebooted, restarted, and it was fixed.

Apparently they know about the problem, and have the fix kind of built in.
