    No Sound after reformat

I reformatted afreinds computer on the weekend, after the reformat was complete we had no sound. From what investigation I could find out on the net, and here, (which seems like a super great forum by the way), I find this is common after a reformat. The problem with his system is we think it is an onboard sound card. As I can find no "hardware" recognized by his system.

    here are his specs.

OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
    Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
    OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
    System Name HOME
    System Manufacturer VIA Technologies, Inc.
    System Model P4M266A-8235
    System Type X86-based PC
    Processor x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9 GenuineIntel ~1996 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 25/03/2004
    SMBIOS Version 2.2

Would appreciate any assistance anyone can give in trying to figure out what drivers I need to find and install !!

    Thanks

    Welcome to Windrivers Scotiagirl!

Download and run Everest : http://www.lavalys.com/

Let us know what it says you have for your onboard soundcard and one of us will be able to find a driver for you.

They downloaded this and said they could find nothing listed after Multmedia, I assume that is where we look for the sound card??

I see tech support guy is having issues finding your answer too. At least we suggested everest instead of telling you to open the case.

Driver Download Click Here Chipset Audio Driver

Without knowing the motherboard model I would say its via ac 97 sound.

Mayet you are excellent in your field and very good looking. I have a
problem with sound as well but I have a card Phillips PSC604 and cannot
find drivers from Phillips. Do you have any suggestions?
