No update/ missing user
Not sure if this was happening before or after spyware/virus clean up but when you go to windows update and try to see if there are any updates IE will start up and say done but there is nothing there. Date is correct so it's not that. Nothing comes up on the web page. Also when you go to user accounts you get an empty window. You do get the back button and the home with the icon there but nothing in the window below. This computer had obviously been used to surf the web and check out porn since when I started it all sorts of pop up attacked. Anyway, once all cleaned out these two problems remained. PC is running winxp home. By the way, I can also go to microsoft site and get the same thing.
Edit: I guess I should of looked a little harder before I posted. This is what I was experiencing and here is the solution.

Geezer
.. I like folks who fix their own .. makes answering a breeze !
I'd say though since you had to go manually fix the de-registration of Javascript (which lots of 'nasties' do), did you get everything ?

Well let me tell you what I think happened here. Her PC was messed up really bad. I mean as soon as you logged on the pop ups started, I had to consult with the wife after a bit, and then back to business, so I first started out with a trend micro house call and, to my surprise, no viruses, I had already turned of system restore, then went to run Kaspersky just to make sure and she had the dam thing pass worded so I couldn't run it and after several attempt to call her I decided to remove it and put on another antivirus like AVG and try it but it wouldn't let me do that either so, and I know better but after telling this women a hundred times to keep these porn kids of this computer, and I know the women well, I decided to removed it manually, I know better, and install AVG, OK, all went according to plan and went through all the steps to remove all the spyware and all temps and all and everything is running great except with the issues I spoke of. Problem now is, the PC is 80miles away and she is a brain dead woman when it comes to explaining it to her how to fix it. I also tried to connect via remote assistance and that also did not work and that is more then likely due to the same thing. I decided to walk her through the uninstall of AVG and reinstall Kaspersky which I believe will repair it but as I said she is brain dead about this kind of thing and I got so frustrated with her I just shut her off after about 5 hrs of working with her. I mean I was talking to her in baby terms. My kid could of followed along. The problem I found is where it is shown in method 2 of the repair procedure where it tells you if is not as it says you need to reset the default to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\JSCRIPT.DLL Kaspersky has completely replaced this with C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-virus Personal\avpscrch.dll and also the same with the second part of that repair also. I believe replacing Kas will fix the problem but can't do it until this women isn't drunk or on drugs. Maybe this morning. This was one of my spare PC's I had left over from an upgrade and sold her for a good price. I know and I new better.
