[RESOLVED] Registry Problems for 95 Windows

Can anyone help, I booted up my computer and I got the message that the registry has a problem. I don't understand this, after a normal boot.

is this a continual problem or did it happen once?
you may want to either download regclean from microsoft to give it the once over and clear out any invalid entries....or just run scanreg /fix from the dos prompt

Unfortunately it is on going. I believe I corrupted my hard drive. Is it possible that I can have a virus in the upper memory? The reason I ask is that I tried to boot with a boot disk to see if that would help and either my machine locks up on initial boot or I get a message "invalid media reading drive c:. I am lost can yo help me again with this one? Also I will do what you've suggested.

I would suggest that you try a diagnostic from DOS. This is a link to a little, free diagnostic disc. www.ontrack.com/DataAdvisor
It has its own operating system to load and run from. It may tell you a little more about what is going on. If it doesn't work you may have a hardware problem.

I dont have THE answer to your problem.

BUT !!
This happened to me with MY win95 unit.
When I started swapping out RAM.
I apparently got either a bad one or..
not supported by bios selection of 60ns.
The point is this...I added these "particular RAM" then on the next boot...I got "Registry problem" error message.
I removed them...Booted and no problem.
I put them back in and pooof...errors!
CAN I EXPLAIN?.... NOPE !!!!
but i shared the experience.
I dont understand why the PASSED RAM checker?

First thing I would do is boot to a dos prompt and type:

Regedit /e Reg.txt (Exports the registry to text file.)

Regedit /c Reg.txt (Imports the text to registry.)

If it says the registry is corrupt i would seriously start thinking about formattign and reinstalling.

If all goes well it should take out all the bad entries when it re-imports.

But yes RAM is a major cause of registry problems. Definitely test your ram.
