    Unhappy Mobo or PSU?

Was working on this box out on field service could not do anything with it on site, due to it's numerous software and virus problems. Got it back to the shop, and the thing faild to even boot anymore. At first i thought it was the psu, so i replaced it. Still no boot. The only thing that starts is the fan on the CPU, which spins one time and stops. The board is an ECS K7SEM with an Athlon1.2 cpu. 512mb ram.
I also stripped the box of eveything, cards and drives, reseated the cpu, and memory, but still no boot. After plugging it back in and hitting the power button, the cpu fan spins once and that's it.

    Thanks for any help

So this should really be called m/b or cpu ? As you already put in a 'good' psu ?

Really dude you need some spares ! (if you have 'a shop' then carrying one chip for each socket assembly type seems a 'must' to me) - Sussing out whether its board or cpu is practically mission impossible without it, gotta test 'seperate' every time..

Are you at least able to swap out the memory & eliminate that ?

CPU issues possible. - but thinking about it the CPU is bolted onto that particular board (correct me if I'm wrong). You could look atthe board for puldging caps and such - maybe something has just "popped". Do you know if the machine was intermittant before you took it away?

Also, try swappnig the battery out - see if that makes a difference (I've known instances when the battery has provoked symptoms such as what you described).

    Good luck

The one I just googled didn't, standard board ? ECS though might well have produced ones including cpu for some models, its the kind of thing they might well do..

Oh they definetly did that alright . I have the same model motherboard here with a XP-1200 soldered into it.
Its definetly not removable and by the way its a Duron
This is the exact board which convinced me never ever to use ECS
Any company that has a XP-1200 (reads on boot) and makes the cpu unchangeable
has jacked the bios or some dam thing to make it say that
There is no such thing as a XP-1200 that I have ever heard of.
My best advise is bin the mobo and put a decent board in it and cpu

Is the CPU is actually soldered in? Too bad then...
Check if his power supply is not defective (check if there are no bulged capacitors or signs of burns inside). Otherwise that PSU can kill any new motherboard you'll use as replacement.
Usually many of stores used that cheapest MB/CPU combo together with the cheapest possible PSU, which usually doesn't last more the 2 years...

Yea, i swapped out the psu with a new one still no good. The cpu is removeable, but just to be sure, will upgrade the chip, and board. Thanks.
