HP Pavillion Start Problem
I am working on a HP Pavillion 6835, when you plug in the power cord the Fan spins and the lights go on the computer for about 3 seconds followed by a single beep and shuts off. You can not press the power On button, does not do anything. I unseated everything and tested the power supply. I changed the power supply, i changed the memory. Still same issue. The cpu is a Socket370 Celeron 888/128/100/1.7v, I want to see if it is a failing cpu but the only S-370 chip I have is a P3 - 866/256/133/1.7v, will this work or harm anything being that it is a 133 FSB??
Thx

Correction in the Beep Code. When I plug in the power cord I hear one quick beep and then 1 second pause and then a longer sounding beep (not too long) then it shuts off. during the initial power up the PSU fan spins, CPU Fan Spins, Light on drive go on, then everything dead......

one beep usually signfies "post complete" so i would check the motherboard fo and buldging or popped caps. it sounds like the symptoms of a dyining motherboards. or it culd be as simple as changing / reseating the video card. as for checking the cpu, if the motherboard runs a 133fsb cpu then you won't have any issues. personally - i'd be leaning towards the cap issue.
if you need pics of what to be looking for - please ask.
good luck

Yea, checked all the caps and they all seem clean. All look good. I have to check the MB specs for the FSB sped.
Thx
