Vista Specifications

Hi! Vista is a 64bit OS so will it only run on 64bit CPU's? or will it run on 32bit ones but they won't taje full advantage?

Also what are the system requirments for the current beta that has been released?

& I believe they've deliberately not released any 'minimum specs' to find out what folks will put up with it running on

!

('a modern pc' with 512mb main memory & dx9 capable is about it so far)

Just FYI - Vista comes in both 32 and 64 bit flavors so you can pick the one your hardware supports. As with Windows XP, you can use 32-bit Vista on a 64-bit platform with little impact on speed and performance. This will likely be necessary for a while (running the 32-bit version on a 64-bit platform) since there are few 64-bit drivers for either XP or Vista at the present time.

I'm hoping that by the final release of Vista, vendors will be fully 64bit driver ready, they have a fair amount of time, and MS will be no doubt providing them with every new build of Vista.

I'll sidetrack this a bit as I think the bit in bold is worth a bit of debate

(& also most folks won't have this choice, at this stage & will only have access to the 32 bit beta, & that not probably 'officially' !

So errr .. lets say I have a 64 bit cpu, but the 'rest of it' is 32 bit - which ones 'best' ?

Now, straight off you'd think the answer would be 64 bit .. but as ever I ain't so sure, especially with immature drivers still flying about for XP64 bit, never mind some pie in the sky yet to have release date o/s !
