Blurred macro images in poor light

My Fuji FinePix 500e has two macro modes and the close up one does not use flash. Usually I get really good pictures close up even if windy but when the light is poor such as dusk they are nearly always blurred. Is this a fault with the camera or because lack of light is distorting the images? The pictures are mostly flowers in the garden.

    Hey MorseLady!

Shutter speed is your enemy in low light. To compensate for less light, the camera holds the shutter open for longer - inevitably you jog the camera a tiny amount and that is the cause of the blurr. To prove this, get a tripod and making sure its stable and cannot move take the picture again - it should be better. If the tripod or camera is not firm, the action of pushing the button will also show up as a blur.
