Not uncommon for Sony models. I support Sony desktop and laptops here at work. I see customers that have their CD-ROMs serviced 3 or 4 times within 6 months..

Hmm, have you ever seen the fans crap out on you on the laptops? At least that's what happened to mine...
Thanks, since this is common, I'll take it in, glad I got the extended warranty!

Not so much fans. 2 most pieces I see fail on the Sony units would be the CD-ROM and the MLB. Every time I see a Sony I can guarantee it's either a MLB issue or CD-ROM issue.

Yeah, MB and MLB same thing, just for notes here I use MLB so I'm just used to typing it that a way.

Yes, it's giving me pure hell. You probably haven't heard about the problems with the Hitachi hard drive in there.
Never buying another Sony again-- Toshiba, Apple, or Dell will be considerations for my next laptop (whenever that is)

Go to the forum index, http://forums.windrivers.com and choose either the forum for your operating system or the laptop forum or the CD forum - then click the new thread button and describe your problem briefly in the title - eg powerdvd unknown problem and then list what operating system, machine, updates, exact errors and what you have tried so far... oh and welcome to windrivers.

He-he-he I see that Jungleman is still 'admin' !
(btw would it not have been simpler to split this out & put it in the cd forum ? I would've when I first saw it, but I lack the admin powers .. maybe I should rename myself as JM, & then I would ? )

I found that people got lost if I moved their threads around... despite redirects. Let atlas read his replies and then post in an appropriate forum.

Fair comment then , I was just confus-ed about the 'why' of matters - but I think you (as ever) are right about it creating as much confus-ed-ness as it fixes .
