Explorer has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down

I have Windows 95 version 4.0905.B something like that and I have recently been loading drivers such as pcmcia, usb and network drivers and the laptop crashed. I started it up again and its saying its missing files such as

    ndis2sup.vxd
    ndis.vxd
    nscl.vxd
    nwlink.vxd
    nwredir.vxd
    vnetbios.vxd
    vnetsup.vxd
    vredir.vxd

I know all this relates to the network adapter im trying to install via PCMCIA slot however windows loads and the Explorer box comes up and says it has performed an illegal operation will be shut down. So hence I try to close it and guess what happens its still not closing-still says the same message and i still close it but it doesnt appear 2do anything.

Is there any way to bypass this or do I need to reformat the hard drive?????

    plz help me...

p.s. thanx for all the replies you have given me so far much appreciated - you know who you are!!!

You need a windows 95 disk that came with your laptop, then extract the files (instructions here) to put them back... alternatively, remove any and all networking components and then reinstall - again you will need your 95 cd.

On laptops, the cab files where often placed on the laptop hard drive for convenience... do a search over the whole drive for *.cab - there is a round 71 of them.
