McAfee Stinger
I was hunting around for an online Virus Checker as a back up to the Free Grisoft I've got on my PC (whilst waiting until we can reformat and reinstall Norton) .. and as the online Norton Virus scan didn't work, I thought I'd try this .. it didn't find anything:
McAfee Avert Stinger
I wonder if anyone else has used it?

Have to say I haven't used McAfee's online scan I generally run Trend Micro's Housecall or Symantec's online scan. I think AVG is wretched, and if you need an interim solution that is free and installed on the machine, check out Avast!

Stinger is a great tool - but it is not a virus checker, it is a killer for certain types of viruses, worms and a few trojans.

Yup. I carry it on my key, its great for checking for and killing the more popular viruses. - But, it is not user updatable, you must download the stinger tool each time they update it to get the latest. (I have the page stinger is located on loaded in my startup tabs each morning to keep tabs on it).

EWIDO found trojan dropper.delf.fd, trojan.aspam, trojan.delf.cr,
trojan.delf.cf, backdoor.lixy.B and 741 spyware and adware,
I have norton and it found trojan but could not do anything.
I ran spybot, and I guess it could not find all 741. Ewido is
a free download for checking and putting files on ice but
you cannot delete I guess until you purchase program
and receive key to unlock all.

Thanks everyone..
Slgrieb, I've tried Symantec and for some reason, it just hangs on my PC. I did look at Avast and found lots of good reviews and a few bad reviews and an awful review-that one put me off! But it does seem better in the way in does updates incrementally and doesn't download the whole thing like Grisoft seems to do.
(The awful review that put me off was .. 'Pros: It seemed fine for ages - until, that is, renewal came, then all hell broke loose... Cons: Basically it asks you update, and the second that happened, upon booting the computer I was unable to load ANYTHING. Couldn't open explorer, couldn't even go online. Up until then I actually thought the program worked, but it froze my machine to uselessness. Then a virus type situation occurred whereby a blue screen threatened "hard disk emptying" and Safe Mode failed to work. Approach at your own risk. I am yet to find a solution to the problem. If Avast wasn't to blame, it sure didn't prevent the problem!')
NooNoo, yes I know Stinger only checks for the more popular viruses, if you can call viruses 'popular'!
3fingersalute, yes I noticed you have to download Stinger each time an upgrade it made.
Xpuser, I found that Ewido, according to Download.com is a 14day trial only then you have to buy it, I already have Free Grisoft on and have a paid Norton waiting to be reinstalled after we've reformatted this PC.
Potato Salad, yes am looking at Panda right now.
Shamus, thanks, yes I already have Grisoft installed.
Am looking forward to being able to get this re-formatted and Norton back on, think we're looking at 2weeks' time now? But can't do that til I get the 'thingie' for my laptop to printer .. that's been discussed elsewhere.
