    Error 1006

    I got a Gateway with a U.S. Robotics Voice Win modem.It was working untill I formatted the hard drive and reloaded Windows98SE.It wouldn't detect a modem so I went to the Gateway site and downloaded the modem for the computer on a floppy.Now no matter what I do it gives me an error 1006 and a message saying to reconfigure the modem.I don't have the CD disk for the modem.

    Bet you have ghosts... Boot to safe mode and remove all references to unknown hardware in device manager (control panel, system). Check for items such as pci communications device and remove it, also remove any items with ! next to it.

    If you have ghosts, you will have two or more of the same device.. remove both of them since you have no (easy) way of knowing which installation windows is using. Reboot and let it redetect.

    was this the driver you downloaded?


    Did you check the how to install link? For this purpose, 95 is the same as 98.

    Was it a ghost? or did you just need to remove it and reinstall?
