DVD stops recording

My DVD recorder stops recording after it records just a small ammout of my vidio. It comes up with an error:

E80041899: Wright error – buffer underrun occurred [06/C5/00]
E80041934: TrackWriter error – Flush failure [T7127]
E80041925: TrackWriter error – Command retry failed – [T7118]

What could be the problem?

If you are copying on the fly, then the communication between the two drives is not fast enough causing the buffer to empty faster than the source drive can fill it.

If you are copying from the hard drive, the same problem exists - the hard drive cannot supply data to the dvd drive via the buffer fast enough.

Most dvd burning packages have buffer underrun protection capabilities, but it is linked to the firmware on the drive itself.

What burning software are you using? What make/model dvd drive and what is the make/model of the source drive?

I am trying to record a vidio off of my vidio camera to send to my family back home and this is hapening to me it used to work great but all of a sudden it stoped.
I am using ROXIO Platinum version 6, my DVD burner is a SONY DVD RW DW-U110A, and my source drive is my hard drive.

Are you therefore recording the video directly from the camera? Or editing it first in what package?

I can't find a sony dvd writer with that model number... Did you mean DW-U10A ?

Something has changed in your setup - it might be that you have changed media

How much space is there on your hard drive? When was the last time you defragged it?

I am editing it directly from ROXIO; I forgot to mention I have two DVD drives a SONY RW DRU-710A and a SONY RW DW-U10A; Hard Drive free space = 76%. What do you think changed my setup, can it be fixed?

OK, so they both burn... is the DRU-710A free of the buffer under run problem?

You didn't say whether you had defragged or have done a thorough scandisk on your hard drive... a hard drive can slow down just because it has lots of odd bits all over the place or the hard drive may have developed a bad sector which is as yet unmarked. A thorough scan disk will mark the area and prevent use of that area.

Yup knowing that this problem just applies to one or both would be most helpful , btw a bit of googling says both units have buffer-under run protection, so hard drive defragged or not, 'iffy unmarked sectors' or not, this oughtn't to be happening regardless...

What o/s is this, xp ? & I'd be using 'my sticky' to check up on the status of your aspi layer too, as buffer-under run problems are often associated with problems with that.

My system properties:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 2
My Computer:
INTEL, Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz, 2.99 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM
Like I said before my DVD's uised to run furfict but something changed in my system.

Both DVD recorder players do the same thing. I did not defrag recently, but I have done it.

Ok so an extra defrag won't harm, & just in case, lets try a chkdsk too (in xp tick both boxes on the options bit - so that it defrags at boot) , despite my earlier 'it shouldn't make any difference' comments - for how long this takes & how hard it is, lets be sure ..

Next question is can you burn a cd without issues & probably more importantly, have you tried a single speed burn of a dvd ? (any difference at all ? even if it just gets a bit further ?)

btw when we are talking about buffer in this context both Noo & I are meaning from the writer, & this is a physical cache inside the unit & there aren't any settings you can change - other than completely turning off any buffer-under run protection your recording software is using.

Oh & please run & post the results from this :- Filter driver load order tool (since both drives do this, the results from just one of 'em ought to be enough)

*NooNoo ponders if both units are on the same ide cable/motherboard port... perhaps dma took a dive? Please post the filter driver results as confus-ed requested and in additon, check for dma mode per the instructions here

I did almost everything and it still failed. It only records 4% of the project.

ok DMA is it on or off?
To find out:

a) Go into your Control Panel by first clicking on the Start Button.

b) Then click on the Control Panel icon located in the right column of the Start Menu.

OR

i) If your Start Menu is set to the "Classic View", then begin by clicking on the Start Button.

ii) Then click on Settings, then click on the Control Panel icon to open up the Control Panel.

Then

c) Double click on the System icon to open up the System Properties window.

d) Now click on the Hardware tab located at the top of the screen.

Steps a-d can be achieved by right clicking my computer, selecting properties, then the hardware tab.

e) click on the Device Manager button in the center area of the screen.

f) Now click on the plus sign [+] next to the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers to expand that section.

g) Then double click on the Primary IDE Channel to display the Primary IDE Properties window.

h) Then click on the Advanced Settings Tab at the top of the IDE properties sheet.

j) Now for Device 0, ensure that the Transfer Mode: selection is set to DMA if available. Did you have to change it by using the drop down arrow to set it?

k) Then for Device 1, ensure that the Transfer Mode: selection is also set to DMA if available. Did you have to change it by using the drop down arrow to set it?

l) Then click on the OK button at the bottom of the screen to save your settings.

m) Then double click on the Secondary IDE Channel to display the Secondary IDE Properties window. (This is the one that probably runs your dvd burner(s)

n) Then click on the Advanced Settings Tab at the top of the screen.

o) Now for Device 0, ensure that the Transfer Mode: selection is set to DMA if available. Did you have to change it by using the drop down arrow to set it?

p) Then for Device 1, ensure that the Transfer Mode: selection is also set to DMA if available. Did you have to change it by using the drop down arrow to set it?

q) Then click on the OK button at the bottom of the screen to save your settings.

r) Then close Device Manager and the Control Panel to return back to your Windows session.

If you changed anything, please post what you changed it from and to.

You said you had done almost everything - apart from the DMA settings, was there anything else you did not do?
