Windows installer 3.1

when running windows update the windows installer 3.1 will fail to install, I have tried to install by it self with no success. So every time I run windows update it will try to install windows installer 3.1 but errors out.

cure was a reg edit for win file protection, but cant remember exactly what i'm afraid. maybe googling that will help you.

I diagnose FREPS ! (failure to read earlier posts properly syndrome !)

I seem to think I've definately had this problem before & its to do with the installer being wrong in the first place (it uses 'itself' to install itself ), which is really ironic considering this is meant to fix it !

True, I didn't recognise "by it self" as meaning a local install.
