Looking for Sys Req's to run XP media center edition 2005?
Hi,
I haven't made the switch to XP just yet, looking at variables and wondering now about if xp media center edition 2005 will work on a 1998 Win98SE machine.
As it stands now, my computer has been upgraded many times, but may not fully compatible.
cpu = 1.4 GHz PIII at 100mhz fsb
hds = (2) SATA drives on a separate PCI card: 1-160gb, 1-200gb both partitioned
cd1 = 16xDVD/cd rom
cd2 = 24x/10x/40x cdrw
video = ATI 9200 AIW with remote, vcr recorder/dvd-cd player & cable tv hooked up
monitor = 19 inch 1600 x 1200
modem = dsl
sound = creative 24 bit audigy LS with 2.1 spkrs
kybd/mouse = wireless MS units (mouse optical)
Would like to move onto Win xp, wondering about which model, though?
thanks for any help!!

One more thing. I am experimenting with on board memory. The computer has three slots and was told by Dell that a 128 mb stick was max per slot. Currently I am running 256mb sticks on two slots and a 512mb stick on the third. The computer is running very well without any glitches and seems to enjoy the freedom, HA-HA!

I don't think you will have problems...

The only thing I see as a possible problem is the AIW 9200.
Seems to me someone in the chat tried that card and had some issues getting it to work correctly with Media Centre

Found This On wikipedia.org
Hi - Hope this helps you, found this info whilst looking for myself. Go here and see for urself exactly wot i found.
Also a quick extract below:
Hardware Requirements
Media Center has higher hardware requirements than other versions of Windows XP. MCE 2005 requires at least a 1.6 GHz (or equivalent) processor, DirectX 9 hardware-accelerated GPU (such as a recent ATI Radeon or NVIDIA GeForce), and 256 MB of RAM. Some functionality, such as Media Center Extender support, use of multiple tuners, or HDTV playback/recording carries higher system requirements.
