Several Problems with win xp sp2
Automatic updates:
I just got my cpu a few days ago:
Sony Vaio RC110G Pentium D 3GHz. It pops up and tells me that I have updates, and then when I chose to install them (express install) it freezes up, I have restarted my cpu and tried again and it will freeze.
I thought I was not giving it anough time to install, so I clicked express install before I went to bed, 7 hours later, it was still showing that it was half way installed.
Shutting down the cpu:
I have went to start and clicked on restart my cpu and it will start to shut down but then stop. It will close the programs in my task bar, but then the cpu will not finish shutting down.
Same with when I chose to shut the cpu down, it will start and then stop. I can click on programs and it will tell me that the cpu is shutting down and it can not start the program. I end up pushing the power button to turn off the cpu.
Games:
I have wwiionline and I have been playing iit on my old cpu but when I click for it to start on my new cpu nothing happens. I uninstalled and reinstalled with new downlaod and still nothing. When I go to restart my cpu or shut it down, a window will pop up saying that it has to shut down the game that will not start for me.
This is my 2nd cpu in 5 days, the hard drive burned out on the first one.
Thanks for any help.

1st problem (Automatic updates) could not update office 2003 because I had not put the key in yet. So it would get stuck on updating that and would not go any further, after inputting the key everything worked. RESOLVED
2nd problem (Games) The cpu came with Norton internet security, and I did not disable it befor installing some of me games. After uninstalling and shutting down nortons everything started working. RESOLVED
3rd problem (cpu shutdown) Sony informed me that one of their sound files is corrupt and I had to change the sound file for shutdown, and file shutdown to a differant sound, after doing that the computer does shutdown. RESOLVED
I posted this because somebody esle my be having the same problems, also wanted everyone to know that my problems had been resolved.
Also Thanks to everyone that took a look at this to try and help me out.

Thank you for posting your solutions, it may indeed answer someone's need one day, especially one like the corrupted sound file.

Yes, that was great thinking to post the solutions, sorry that this thread seemed to have slipped by unanswered, I totally missed it myself.
