    Profile issues

    I work for a local hospital in the IT department. We're having constant problems with corrupt profiles. We have a Windows AD domain, Windows 2000/XP workstations & roaming profiles. The Win2k boxes are a combination of SP3 & SP4, WinXP are all SP2. We constantly see users having problems where their profile will not load, becomes corrupted, etc. We have been trying the MS application UPHClean but it doesn't seem to be fixing the issue. Another thing we are seeing is the users profiles multiplying on the workstations. An example is - 'username.domain.001'. This happens every time the user logs on, a new profile directory is added to the workstation. When the user logs off, the profile is emptied except for the 'username\Start Menu\Programs' directory which has nothing in it. The registry on all workstations has been adjusted to remove all roaming profiles at logoff. So far the only fix we have is renewing the users profile, & this becomes a little tedious with 850+ PC's. Any idea's?

    We had so many problems with Roaming Profiles that we finally scrapped them here.
    I did find per machine fix that forces workstations to use local profiles, though.

    On XP -
    Start-Run-GpEdit.MSC -> Computer configuration -> Admin Tools ->
    System -> User Profiles -> Enable only allow local user profiles.

    Thanks for the reply. Only problem with using local profiles is that they fill up the hard drive after awhile & that is something we are trying to avoid as we have many areas where there are multiple users using the same machines. One thing we might try using mandatory profiles so that nothing can be changed & everyone uses the same profile settings.

    XP and AD

    I'm not sure if its unique to where I work or not but we've found that once you login to a XP box on AD you can't go back to 2K without screwing up your profile.

    Hence were going to push XP and AD only as we upgrade.

    For the most part the only XP systems we have are a select few that are privately owned by doctors, & those we do not support. There are a few in our IT deparment & are experiencing the same issue as the 2000 pc's. We did have UPHClean 1.5 running & have just started deploying 1.6 to a few machines that have been having this issue, including our XP boxes. We will give them a couple of days to see what happens.
