Quitting smoking is a good one to strive for.
I am a reformed (more than two packs a day) sinner, so I can be a little self-righteous here.
I think the big hurdle is accepting the fact that you will never be free from the cravings. I have not smoked in more than 25 years, and still my first thought on waking is often how nice it would be to have a smoke. If I have had a couple of pints, I want a smoke. If I am tired, I want a smoke. On the rare occasions I get one of my sadly neglected guitars out of its case and play a few tunes with friends from the old days, I want a smoke. The desire is not so much concsious as it is visceral; it is the motor mechanics of my hand that want the cigarette as much as anything else. If I had one, it would make me hack and cough and I would feel like puking, but the craving is still there, very much so.
It is worth quitting if you can. I just stopped cold when I realized that all too often I was lighting one off the end of the other. Give it your best shot, and don't beat up on yourself if you backslide a bit.

Yup, I was a heavy smoker but quit cold-turkey almost 7 years ago. I didn't do the patch, gum or any of that crap, just decided it was time to quit and did.
Although, that was my fourth attempt at quitting, it doesn't always happen the first time you try.

I resolve not to make any silly resolutions that I almost surely won't keep (and probably not remember half of them) six weeks later.
