    Random Restarts with error message

Hello all, I did search and found some helpful stuff, but I still need help.

    My system is
    XP pro sp2
    MB: Asus P5P800
    Chipset: Intel P4 3.4
    2 GB ram
Radeon 9600 dual digital out video card

the computer shuts down randmoly, sometimes 2 times a day, some times dozens, some times not for days at all. It shuts down at different times, while under a major load, or in the middle of the night when it is basically idle

    the error number is
    0x0000000A (0XFFFFFFFF,0x0000001c,0x00000000,0x804e5ef5)

The first part is a stop error, possible hardware conflict, I have checked the windows HCL and all my stuff is fine.

According to the Asus utility and the fan/heat monitor I installed (both match 95% of the time) the cpu is never getting over about 62C under load 31 during normal use, and the MB is getting about 25 under load, the case is staying about 27C. So, I doubt this is a heat issue. (I did use heat compound on the chip when I installed it)

I reinstalled windows thinking that might be an issue.

My thoughts have come down to this, fan on the video card, or a loose cable somewhere.

I have not tried to fix these things because it happens so randomly, I thought just a windows update fixed it since it did not do it for 6 days after the update.

Any help in decoding the error number?

    TIA guys,
    Kevin

Hi Kevin & welcome to WD forums .

Are you sure its not heat, all those numbers sound borderline/high to me - 47c inside your case is what my CPU is doing under load ! (when all the fans are nice & clean anyway).

& can we have the FULL stop message please, not just the mysterious numbers, which at the moment are most likely pointing to this :- Stop 0x0000000A or IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Have we got any entries in Event Viewer that might give clues also ?

sorry, i typed bad numbers, I updated it in the origional post, but here it is also.

CPU under load 62, normal use 31
MB under load 25, normal about 21
Case under load 27, normal use 27

I don't have the full message, rest assured, next time I will get it. IT has not pointed to any specific device or group.

The event viewer shows 0 errors since I reinstalled windows about 24 hours ago. There are lots of little info things, but the ones in the minute before a shut down tend to just be that some system task started, then it finished.

I read the link you posted yesterday and again this morning, I came here when I really was getting no where.

Would changing the addresses of some of my hardware in the BIOS fix this?

Ok, it finally did it again, its been almost 72 hours this time.

The beginning of the error message was:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

The error number this time was
    *** STOP:
    0X0000000A (0X09400080, 0X00000002, 0X00000001, 0X804ED41E)
    and the previous number was
    0x0000000A (0XFFFFFFFF,0x0000001c,0x00000000,0x804e5ef5)

I hope that helps ed and anybody else is suggesting what is wrong.

    Thanks all,
    Kevin

The rest of the error message is as follows
If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe move to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select safe mode.

yup, seen that one, did those steps. I did the repair and thought I had it fixed since it did not do it for almost 72hours, then it did it.
