[RESOLVED] Sharing a Home Networked Printer

I have 2 Win XP PC's, connected via Ethernet cable to inbuilt Ethernet cards.
1 PC has Internet connection, and has a USB connected HP K80 Printer.
The second PC can Internet share via a network bridge.

From the 2nd PC, I am unable to find/share the Printer on the 1st PC. Both have file & Print settings installed.
Please can anyone advise what settings I should make to each PC to enable printer sharing.

Are you using XP home or pro ??? I'm gonna assume home, here's a guide using XP Home.

Have followed instructions as per given link.
From the 2nd PC, I am still unable to view the printer. When I browse for a network printer (Adding a Printer Part 4/5), all I see is 'Microsoft Windows Network'.

Did you doublecclick the Microsoft Windows Network?
Did you do a search for computers in the network Places?

Is your ethernet cable a crossover cable? If the cable simply links the on-board nic's then it needs to be to network the machines.

Is sharing enabled on the printer? There's a box you need to check in properties to enable this.

unless i am reading it wrong, THIS page states that a print server is needed to use this printer on a network.

Why not use a print server? Not very expensive, easy to set, can print from any machine even if the other(s) are off.
Another hint for installing the printer shared by the other PC:
-install the driver locally, as if the printer was attached to the PC.
-make a note of the name of the share on the "server"
-create a new port on the client (local port, \\<server.ip.address>\<sharedprintername> )
-switch the port for the printer from the local USB or LPT to the network port.

Be aware that when you enable file and print sharing you may be opening the "server" to access from the internet - make sure you have a firewall properly configured. In such an instance the best approach is to use a router for sharing the internet connection.

you could map a network drive to the printer on lpt2 something like
net use LPT2 \\Ip_of_computer\Share_name

Then add the printer and select the LPT2 port.
