Moniter Blinking?
My computer screen recently has been blinking every-so often. It's a Spectrum 5EA. I will just be doing what I usually do on the computer and the screen flickers slightly, It never goes compleatly blank though. It also makes a clicky noise when it does that. What is it? help please

Sounds like one of the tubes in the monitor is going to me (I take it the noise it makes is the same as when it turns on?)
If so, your only recourse is probably a new monitor, and quite possible a new PC considering its age.

Most times the 'clicky noise' is windows notifying you that it's 'up to something' in the background, & on a system 'under pressure' {so perhaps the cpu is already working hard, or things need switching in & out of memory etc} this might result in a slight flickering, as windows switches focus to this background task for a moment & back again.
To find out if this is a possibility for you, try working your way through your windows sound scheme & see if you can find an event sound which is the same as this 'clicky noise' (open control panel, choose 'sounds & audio', pick the 'sounds' tab, & use the little play button at the bottom of that to play them - it's probably either the sound for 'menu command' or 'menu popup').

Confus-ed, the noise I'm thinking of is of the type when you degauss a CRT monitor. I kinda doubt his PC has sounds- Its a spectrum!!

If sound is coming from the monitor rather than the computer, than yes, it possible that monitor is going dead.
I would check the most obvious things. Is your video card set out of the tolerance of your monitor. Check <riight-click> <properties> <settings tab> <Advanced button> and finally the <Monitor tab>.
What is the refresh freqency? What happens if you lower it?

Go on then , 'clicky noise' is very vague, but degausing makes two definate sounds most times & does quite a bit more than make the 'screen flicker slightly'
