Desktop Display

I have (2) PC's in a clients office where on the desktop there is a vertical bar/panel on the left being displayed, taking up about a third of the desktop. The bar shows programs that are opened, (i.e. MSWord), and when you close the program the item shown in the bar also goes away. My question is, how do I get rid of this bar/panel? This bar/panel has no header, conto;s or borders. I cannot find the persons who implemented it. Any help apprciated.

Can you right click the bar and see if its a toolbar and then uncheck it to close it?

Yeah, that was the first thing I tried and there is nothing that comes up. No options at all.

if it is an ActiveDesktop panel move the mouse up to the top and hover a small nband will appear with a few buttons and a small close button click the close button

What OS is this?

It's not the taskbar right?

But via taskbar, try <right-click> taskbar and from the popup menu, <Taskbar> and see if there are any other taskbar checked and uncheck everything but <Quick Launch>.

The last time I looked, this was this was the Windows XP forum. Also this is not the Task Bar. It is some sort of monitoring panel of which I have not seen before.

Task manager---Applications running?? Processes??? You should be able to decipher it from there.

Did look in task manager applications and found nothing. I will check the processes again and may go thru and end task on all processes and see if this shuts down the app. Thanks for the suggestion will post back after trying. (By the way, was former buckeye as well. How's the weather?)

Is it something like this which seems to have no close buttons at all?

If so then here is how to remove them:

Go to Control Panel
Open Desktop / Display
On the 'Display' Dialog go to the 'Desktop' tab and click 'Customize Desktop'
On the 'Desktop Items' Dialog go to the 'Web' tab

You will see a list of Active Desktop items and web items being displayed
You can uncheck the box next to the relevant item or click the item and select 'Delete' depending on whether you wnat to be able to restore it later.

No, it is located on the left side and is solid gray which also reduces the size of the desktop. If you log in as another user, it does not show up, which leads me to believe this is a profile setting. I think since I cannot find the solution I will delete the profile and recreate a new one. Before I do that, I will get a print screen shot of it and post it here. Thanks for all the help.

Hope to get the screen shot this week. Have a client their business was broke into and all equipment stolen. Been busy getting them back to speed again.
