Engine Connection Lost
I'm running a 1GHZ AMD with 512MB memory and a 75Gig C drive configured NTFS. with 55Gig free, the OS is NT2000 Pro.
When I open the MMC and try to run Defrag, I receive the error message "Engine Connection Lost". My D drive defrags just fine. Any ideas what that message is trying to tell me?
Thanks.

Intel Mod
This usually indicates there are errors on the drive. Check C: for errors & try again. If no errors show up, you can try the defrag from Safe Mode, or there have been some reports that the error is in the Defrag executable itself. In this case, folk have cured it by re-naming DFRGNTFS.EXE to DFRGNTFS.old, then booting from the Win2000 CD and choosing to do a recovery.

First, I'd run your drive manufacturer's diagnostics on the drive. Bypass the quick test and go right to advanced tests. If you get an error on the file system, I would run chkdsk /r http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=229716
