    GeForce FX 5600 Video Capture

Hey I am trying to use the video capture capability on my GeForce FX 5600 but I am having a weird problem. It will "work" in windows movie maker, but not in any other program. I say "work" because while I can see the video fine in the preview window it does not record well, putting a white bar that covers about 1/2 the video at random intervals. I am ok with not using windows movie maker, it's not that great a program anyway, but I have no clue why the video is not going to any other program. Any suggestions?

Try updating your capture drivers from nVidia's web site. This is a different driver from the video driver. I've seen the updated driver make huge improvements in performance.

Actually thats when these problems originally started...I think. The whole story is that I installed the updated drivers (don't remember if I was having problems first or what) and my computer stopped recognizing that I had video capture capabilities in the first place. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers (at which point I still had no video capture card recognized) and then I got a windows prompt telling me that it found new hardware, and it went through the motion of installing the drivers again. Once I went through that I got the situation I am in now where the card works only with the microsoft program (and buggily).

I will try uninstalling and reinstalling (maybe use a remover program) but I doubt it will fix anything.

Are you running one of these? http://www.nvidia.com/object/wdm_geforce2-fx_2.26.html

I'm using the VIVO version on one of my machines with a FX5600 and it works fine with Movie Maker, Vegas Video, etc. nVidia says you should always remove the old driver before installing the new one, and their support site also has a link to a cleaning tool. Check it out at: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/n...i=&p_topview=1

Run the cleaning tool when you do the removal, and give us an update. Good Luck!

No luck. Removed all the drivers relating to my video card, cleaned following the instructions in the readme, installed everything new, and then when I restarted the 2nd time (after installing the WDM drivers) windows then said found new hardware. I quit that auto driver find and checked to see if the capture part worked but nothing, so I ran the driver install wizard, that installed the driver again for the WDM and the AV crossbar, and then I got back to square one with the ability to use the windows capture program but nothing else...so weird

After installing the new driver XP should detect new hardware and load the correct driver if you let it go through the detection process. Sorry, but I'm a bit confused about where you exited the detection and installation routine. I'm afraid you may have shot yourself in the foot by cancelling the detection process. You may need to repeat the removal/installtion procedure. About the only other suggestion I could offer would be a hardware problem with the video card.
