    Question sata on a7v8x-la

    I'm trying to get my new 80gig sata drive to detect when attached to my compaq sr1055cl, but it won't. I plugged everything in and started the computer booted the windows cd and it says there is no drive attached.. I don't know what i'm doing wrong..

    You will need to have the SATA driver disquette ready and hit the F6 key when prompted about using additional controller drivers during setup.

    If the MB didn't come with the drivers, you can download them from the Asus website.

    Sometimes you'Re lucky and WinXP SP2 install CDs will recognize the controllers right from the start when installing, but in practice, and especially with Asus boards' Silicon Image controllers, I've always had to use the extra floppy disk to feed the drivers.

    Check your manual, if I remember correctly, your mobo only supports sata1
    If as U say U have purchaced an new harddrive, it will be SataII, unless you specified a sataI harddrive.
    To get a sataII hardrive to work, you will need a new motherboard.
    The bios will only support sataI NO update available
