the back of the knee
According to the fictional chararcter, Reg Smeeton, Rawlinson End's resident pub know-it-all in Vivian Stanshall's Sir Henry at Rawlinson End, "there is no proper name for the back of the knee."
Perhaps a campaign should be organized to decide upon a suitable name?

In common terminology it's the ham.
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=ham
The adjective to describe the location is popliteal, but there doesn't seem to be a noun drawn from this for the location, probably because it's used up naming one of the muscles behind the knee, the popliteus.
Medically it can be called the popliteal fossa, but that's not one word...

If we have the crook of an elbow, an armpit and a groin, why not the pleat of the knee? A nice friendly word!

Well.... if we were being logical... following armpit and pit usage by strict analogy... a pit associated with the leg in general would be located in the crotch area and not at the back of the knee.
