    World's most 'e-ready' countries

IBM and the intelligence unit of British magazine The Economist released on Tuesday their annual "e-readiness rankings" of 68 countries. Here is the first half of the list, topped by Denmark, which scored 9 out of a possible 10 points, followed closely by the United States and Switzerland.

According to the study, Denmark takes good advantage of the Internet, both in connecting citizens securely over broadband and wireless networks and in using its near-ubiquitous hookups for Internet banking and government services such as tax returns.

Hmmm, is this comforting or frightening?

What of the days, when people used to talk to people, instead of screens.

When children played in the streets and parks safely, instead of peering at screens.

I know someone who works in a school office and they've all been put onto Messenger so they don't have to walk round the building and talk to each other ... how efficient and yet how sad is that?

    Hmmm?

Great point Mags,The world isn't much to look at anymore.Thank goodness
Some people still talk to each other.

I think maybe the cell phone has made for the most rude group of people in any known society.

When someone comes to the nursery where I grow landscape shrubbery.I say"Hello may I help you. Yes,says the customer do you have......excuse me for a moment I must get that. Then I must stand there in frozen animation for 3-5 minutes......Finally customer says, I was wondering do you......excuse me for a moment I must get that.

3 minutes later I say,Do you have time now my attitude normally OK is now.

Its progress coming sort of "full circle", back in the old days, not everyone had cars or transport, so you didn't meet that many people anyway, as transport got better, you got to move about. Now technology let's us do that without moving.

Hmm... I remember the old days, when I could actually drive my car at night and get parked back outside my house, so then I could visit people. Now, so many houses have two cars, if you go out at night, you can't get parked, so hardly anyone goes out in the evening and I see less people in the evening !

In the good old days, people talked to their neighbours, does anyone actually know their neighbours now?

And if technology allows us to meet people without moving, how fat do we get ?

    Hmmm...

Change of colour, also Street was right, mobile phones. I've had lunch with a friend and every other minute, 'oh hang on, got a text'. Interesting picture you painted there of a sales assistant or manager WAITING for the customer to stop having calls ?

Another thing that is absent from the good old days is solitude.
