I turned on my computer and the sound was gone, i made sure everything was connected and the computer tells me that there is no audio device detected. Any help would be appreciated

When you go to device manager is there anything listed in the Sound, video and game controllers catagory. Also a little information on your computer would be helpful. Stuff like brand/model number or any specifications.

To get to device manager, Right click on "My Computer" and go to properties. Click Hardware Tab and then under that tab click device manager. Look for devices there and see if there any devices with a red X or yellow exclamation point.

Well the first thing I would try is removing the sound card from device manager and then refreshing it seeing if the computer picks it back up. If that does not work try reinstalling the sound card. Check the computer manufacturer's webpage or if it is an integrated sound card the motherboard manufacturer. If it is a removable sound card then you should be able to use the creative lab drivers http://us.creative.com/support/downl...pe=0&x=22&y=11

Give us your computer brand and model and that may help narrow the search.
Also what operating system you are using would be helpful.
At the source of every error which is blamed on the computer, you will find at least two human errors, including the error of blaming it on the computer.

I tried the link but it didn't work, thanks anyway. I don't know much about computers, and i got this computer from a cousin a while ago, and i don't see any model or brand name on it. I did find this however, and i hope it helps narrow the search:

Operating Sytem: Microsoft Windows XP professional
    OS Service Pack: None
    CPU Type: Intel Pentium 500 Mhz (5 x 100)
    Motherboard Name: ASUS P2-99 (3 ISA, 4 PCI, 1 AGP, 2 DIMM)
    Motherboard Chipset: Intel 82440ZX
    System Memory: 256 (SDRAM)
    BIOS Type: Award Modular (10/21/99)

    Thanks In Advance

Well the ASUS motherboard does not appear to have an onboard sound card from the information I got from doing a google search on it. I also cannot find any info on it at ASUS.com. That sound card should be supported by Windows XP drivers. Did you try removing/deleting it from device manager and rebooting your computer and see if it picks it up again? It is possible the sound card is bad as that is also old.

I took your advice and it detects the card, so i try to play something it says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly." and when check the speaker settings it says there is no audio device, and i know my speakers work and are properly connected. Well anyway i appreciate your advice anyway...

Well I am sorry to say, but you might have a bad sound card and it may just need to be replaced.
